TEREVAU PITI: A 77m ROPAX ferry for Tahiti designed by MAURIC
MAURIC is in charge of designing a 77m Ro-Ro Passenger Ship for French Shipowner SNGV2. This new project illustrates MAURIC capability to support shipowners in their project of tailor made and optimized vessel adapted to their operational constraints.
The project started two years ago, when SNGV2 shipowner, based in Papeete, French Polynesia, contacted MAURIC for the design of a specific ROPAX vessel dedicated to daily trips between Papeete and Moorea, 12.5 nm away, and regular trips to Leeward islands for holiday periods.
TEREVAU PITI: From shipowner concept to MAURIC design...
SNGV2 company already operates a fast catamaran on the line Papeete/Moorea for the transport of 350 passengers and 105 cars, 5 to 6 times a day. This fast catamaran does not allow SNGV2 to transport large vehicles, cargo wheeled or dangerous goods. SNGV2 shipowner finally decided, end of 2017, to launch the building of a new vessel answering to the needs of Moorea and Papeete people for the daily transport of passengers and cargo.
After several weeks of discussion between SNGV2 and MAURIC about the operational requirements of the vessel, in May 2017, SNGV2 contracted us for the preliminary design of a safe and comfortable Ro-Ro Passenger Vessel specifically adapted to operations in Papeete and Moorea waters and harbours. SNGV2, looking for a customized design, were convinced to use the services of a naval architect for the design of their future vessel, in order to optimize the arrangement, the operational costs and the ergonomic of the vessel. MAURIC reference in the Ro-Pax Ferry sector, with for instance the design of the 40m ROPAX (ROPAX 400) for Azores islands and a long experience of Owner’s assistance in this range of vessels was also a proof of MAURIC ability to transform shipowners’ specific operational requirements in technical specifications and tailor-made ship design.
TEREVAU PITI: A tailor made design of Ro-Pax Ferry for daily trips between Papeete and Moorea and comfortable trips to Leeward islands
After a concept design phase allowing defining the general dimensions of the vessel, its general arrangement, and the main performances, MAURIC continued to contribute to TEREVAU project by delivering a complete preliminary design and detailed technical specifications for shipyard tender.
With a total length of 77m, a maximum breadth of 17m and a maximum draft of 3.8m, TEREVAU PITI (ROPAX 770) has a maximum capacity of 675 passengers and a car lane length of more than 500m on a large RoRo space and hoistable decks. The passenger saloons are distributed on the upper deck and second deck either inside the vessel (one restaurant, one VIP lounge, forward and aft passenger rooms) or on sun decks to enjoy the wonderful weather of South Pacific Ocean.
Equipped with two medium speed diesel engines (ABC 12 DZC-1000-176) producing 2652kW each at 1000rpm, TEREVAU PITI can reach a cruise speed of 16kts and a maximum speed of more than 17.5kts. The two bow tunnel thrusters provide excellent manoeuvrability for docking in Papeete and Moorea. TEREVAU PITI will be built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructures in ASTILLEROS ARMON in Spain. MAURIC has just been contracted to deliver both the basic and detailed design packages to the Shipyard.
The delivery is scheduled for 2021.
